December 18/19: From the Pastor's Desk

My Dear Parishioners,

The blizzard last weekend forced us to cancel both the 8 am and 10 am Sunday Masses. The dangerous driving conditions, blowing snow, and ice and snow covered roads are good reasons for cancelling the Masses. I appreciated the fact that all of you listened to and observed the DOT’s request that if you did not absolutely have to be on the road driving that you remain at home. This is for your personal safety and also for the safety of those who have to be out plowing the roads and the police officers who are out to care for those in need. Whenever such conditions exist, remain at home.

The second collection this weekend is for the “Retired Religious Fund”. Please be generous – this is a very worthy cause. Also kindly keep in mind that we will be preparing our Church for Christmas after the 10 am Mass this weekend. If you can spare some time it would be greatly appreciated, and the more people we have the less time it will take to get the church decorated. Thank you to Jeff and Jan Walton for planning our church environment for this important holiday. There is something for all ages to do in preparing the Church.

Many of you have commented to me about the new picture of Jesus Christ that is in our shrine/candle area. The picture was given to the parish in memory of Carole Zittlow by her husband, Fred, and her two sons. The family has also had two vessels which are used for the Eucharist restored in her memory. The two vessels date back to the original church and are very beautiful. I will place them on exhibit this weekend for you to see, they will be on the Baptismal Font, in front of the Sacred Heart statue. Thank you to Fred and his sons for these gifts to the parish. If you are interested in purchasing the Jesus picture, it was purchased at Lighthouse Christian Bookstore, and can also be found online at www.pgrahamdunn.com/framed-print.

Looking ahead I have already informed you that I will be gone from the parish the first week of January so I may make my retreat and attend the Norbertine Chapter at St Norbert Abbey. I recently have been called to jury duty for Monday through Friday, January 10-14; thus, there will be no weekday Masses on those dates.

A correction to our Christmas Mass schedule published December 5. Christmas Eve is Friday, December 24th, with Masses at 6:30 pm, and 10:30 pm (choir concert beginning at 10 pm). Mass on Saturday, December 25, will be at 9 am [NOTE: No 4 pm Mass]. Masses on Sunday, December 26, will be at 8 am and 10 am (Fr. Bill Jacobs, celebrant).

Oremus pro invicem,
Fr. Tom
