May Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him

Jerome Thomas Ropson died peacefully at his home in his favorite chair on Monday evening, November, 1, 2010.

Born July 25th, 1912 to the late Theophile and Mary (Bader) Ropson in the Town of Red River, Kewaunee County. Jerome graduated from East High School in 1930 and went on to graduate from Door-Kewaunee Teachers college, in 1931.

Jerome was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Florence LeCaptain Ropson on Dec. 7th 1995. Jerome taught school in Kewaunee County until the outbreak of World War ll at which time he went to work at the shipyards. After the war he became a plumber, worked first at Skogg Plumbing, then at Tweet-Garot where he finished his career at the age of 62. Jerome always had a passion for clocks, and began building them in earnest after retirement. He always donated one of his clocks for the Holy Cross picnic's raffle.

Many homes in many states are graced by his clocks. Jerome was never one to shy away from hard work. Remodeling an old farm house for his family, building clocks, or cutting wood, helping his neighbors in someway-he always did it wholeheartedly. Florence & Jerry moved to Green Bay after selling the little Bay Settlement farm to their grandson Peter, and lived on Green Bay's East Side until 1992 when they moved to Ashwaubenon to be close to their daughter Jane. Jerome remained in his own home all this time.

He is survived by his seven children, David (Joanne) Ropson, Ashwaubenon, Tom (Audrey) Green Bay, John Ropson, Pulaski, Dan Ropson, Mississippi, Chris DeWitt, Oshkosh, Kathy (John) Schoenecker, Savannah, GA, Jane (Jim) Corsten, Ashwaubenon; twenty grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two former daughter-in-laws, Marlene Carey and Debbie Ropson; 2 sisters-in-law, Ellen Naze and Ethel Ropson; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
