Faith Formation Thanksgiving Family Mass

By Faith Formation Director Marti Burkard

Each year our Holy Cross Faith Formation Program is involved in outreach to an organization who serves the poor and those in need. Over the years our outreach has included creating Hygiene Kits for Haiti, outreach to the Golden House Domestic Violence Center, the House of Hope, and this year we became aware of the needs of the families who live at the Freedom House here in Green Bay. In early October the President of Freedom House Ministries, Robyn Davis came to speak to our young people in Grades 7 - 10 about homelessness in our community and the needs of the homeless families who reside there. In the ensuing weeks each classroom decorated boxes and went about filling boxes over the weeks with donations for the families.

It was great to see the church filled to the brim last Wednesday, Nov. 17 at our Annual Thanksgiving Family Mass. Our students did a wonderful job on the readings, the music was beautiful and the donations that we had been collecting for the past 2 months for Freedom House filled the front of the altar. Our donations completely filled the back of a pickup truck and the backseat as well! My friend Peter and I brought all of the donations to the Freedom House and they were just filled with gratitude for our families generosity. We took up a collection as well and raised $164.64 to continue their outreach to needy families in our area. Let us hold in prayer during this time of Thanksgiving those families who reside at Freedom House. May God continue to watch over them and keep them safe from harm.
