May Perpetual Light Shine Upon Her

Carole J. (Basten) Zittlow, 61, New Franken, passed away early Monday morning, October 11, 2010, with her family by her side after an 8 year battle with breast cancer. She was born on September 27, 1949, to the late Marvin and Catherine (Jahnke) Basten, Sr. She was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Church, Bay Settlement. Carole graduated from Preble High School in 1967 and went to work at Farm Credit Services. She was employed there until she went on disability in June of 2010. Carole married Fred Zittlow on May 9, 1981, and was the proud mother of Chris and Tim. She was thrilled when Chris and Carrie became engaged this summer. Carole loved crocheting, baking, and rummage sales. She truly enjoyed shopping and Christmas time. Carole made sure there was a present under her tree for everyone each year. She enjoyed telling Fred where to plant flowers and put all of the seasonal decorations. Her cat Regis was her favorite napping partner.

Carole is survived by her loving husband, Fred and their children; Chris (fiancée, Carrie Laws) and Tim Zittlow; siblings and their spouses, Mary (Kelly) Bresnahan, Emily (John) Hrabik, Dennis (Val) Basten, Marvin Basten, Jr., Mike Basten, Sr., and John Basten; sister-in-law, Jean (Bernard) Lemmen; brothers-in-law and spouses, Ken (Ellen) Zittlow, Cliff (Lynn) Zittlow, and Chuck Zittlow; several godchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister (special godchild), Kathy; 1 brother, Darold; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Cliff and Leona Zittlow, Sr.; sisters-in-law, Betty Genke and Colleen Basten.

Visitation at Malcore (East) Funeral Home, University Ave. at Baird Street, Wednesday (10/13) from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Parish wake service 7:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Bay Settlement, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Thomas Hagendorf, O.Praem. officiating. Entombment at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center, for all of the special care she received the past 8 years.
