September 4/5: From the Pastor's Desk...

My Dear Parishioners,

This weekend and our national holiday, LABOR DAY, we honor all workers and appreciate the fruit of their labors. Let us hold in prayer all those who are unemployed but seek and desire work.

This holiday also traditionally marks the end of the Summer vacation time and a return by our children and young adults to school. We welcome back our own students, teachers and staff as they begin a new school year, and we ask God to bless, guide and keep them during this new school year.

Let us also hold in prayer all those who live along the Eastern seaboard as they prepare for the hurricane. My own family all have homes on the island which houses the famous Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate, and Longport cities. Some hurricanes in the past have washed complete streets and houses out to sea never to be seen again, so hopefully this will not be one of those storms.

Let us hold Judy Lardinois and her family in prayer as they mourn the passing of Judy’s mother, Dolores LaLuzerne. May she and all the faithful departed rest in the peace and embrace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Congratulations are in order for Harold and Sandra DeMoulin who celebrate their 5oth Wedding Anniversary this weekend. We offered them a special blessing at the 4 pm Mass on Saturday and pray that Almighty God may give them many more years together.

Congratulations are also in order for Katherine Mercier and Bryan Hecker who received the Sacrament of Marriage on Saturday and thus began their journey of becoming one in heart and mind and love in Christ Jesus as husband and wife. May God also grant them many happy years together. Through the Sacrament of Baptism at the 10 am Mass this Sunday we welcomed Adalyn Mercier, daughter of Eric & Stephanie Mercier, into the family of God. May God bless her and her family.

Kindly give a warm Holy Cross welcome to Father Joseph Lionel who will speak to us about his community’s mission. The second collection this weekend is for the “Missionary Cooperation Appeal.”

Last but not least, our first Parish/School social and fund raising event will take place next Saturday, September 11th, after the 4 pm Mass. I invite and encourage you to come and enjoy a family style dinner, some great music, dancing, a bon fire, and refreshments. The cost is $15 per person and all profits will support and benefit our youth programs at Holy Cross. Why not plan to attend and invite other family and friends. Tickets are being sold after all the Masses this weekend and are also available at the school.

Oremus pro invicem,
Fr Tom
