Hidden Homeless (30-minute documentary on homeless youth)
Wisconsin Public TV Broadcast: Thursday, September 16 at 7:00 p.m.
Hidden Homeless is a half-hour documentary covering the issue of homeless children and youth, and hopes to raise awareness of issues unique to young homeless, as opposed to adults who are homeless. Viewers will be presented with homeless youth discussing difficult situations they must face, such as how they became homeless; how they try to hide their homelessness; how it affects big and small towns and rural areas; how they meet their basic needs of food, clothing and shelter; poverty and homelessness.
Because youth want to blend in with their peers, and because they are extremely resourceful, we often do not see homeless children. This does not mean that they do not exist. Unlike the stereotypes, homeless youth do not stand out from the crowd. In fact, they make a strong effort to blend in with their peers as much as possible. It is their determination to “fit in” that makes youth the hidden homeless.
