August 21/22: From the pastor's desk...

My Dear Parishioners,

It is nice to get away on vacation but it is always delightful to come back home. I had a wonderful two weeks at our Norbertine House of Studies in Chicago. Our house is located in the Hyde Park area and is four or five blocks from President Obama’s house, and as you know, he visited Chicago while I was there. The security was tight and a number of the streets were blocked off with large cement barricades during his visit there. You cannot get too close to his house without security guards appearing and preventing you from getting too close. It was an interesting situation. Chicago is a beautiful town and my visit was very enjoyable.

This past Friday I presided at the wedding of Andy Wiesner and Lindsay Frizzel here at Holy Cross. We as a parish family wish them many happy years together as they begin their journey of becoming one in heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Andy is the son of Jim & Chris Wiesner and grandson of Corrie VanDen-Meerendonk. The second collection this weekend is our annual appeal for our future priests of our diocese…in this day and age when the priest shortage is becoming more and more apparent, it is necessary that we do all that we can to help and support those young men who are answering the call of Jesus to the priesthood. Our financial support is one way that we can encourage and assist them in the process of becoming a priest. Please be generous in your support of our annual Seminarian Collection.

It is difficult to believe that the summer is coming to a quick end. This is most apparent as I work with our school people in the beginning of a new school year. Our parents and children for both our grade school and our faith formation are in serious preparation for a new school year. I am happy to report that our enrollment for this coming school year is 208 children. This is really a wonderful increase in student population and is the result of a great deal of work on the part of our Principal, Robin Jensen, our faculty and staff, and our parent volunteers who have been marketing our school. We as a parish community can take a great deal of pride in our educational opportunities here at Holy Cross. One final testament to the quality of our school is that our entire faculty and staff will be returning for another school year. Let us pause and give thanks to Almighty God for the many Blessings he has bestowed upon us these past few years.

Oremus pro invicem,
Fr Tom
