Merry Christmas from Faith Formation!
(Feedblitz readers will need to go directly to the blogspot to see the slideshow.)
On Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 6:30pm, the Faith Formation Program celebrated their Third Annual Faith Formation Christmas Play. It was presented to a full crowd in Holy Cross Church to families, friends and parishioners of Holy Cross Parish. Following the play, we filled the gymnasium with families for a social, which included Christmas treats and refreshments brought by our Faith Formation families.
Our Christmas Play is based on a tradition that dates back to St. Ignatius Loyola of the 16th century. The Las Posadas was later introduced to Southwestern U.S. and Mexico by Spanish Missionaries. A novena of nine days sought to teach people the story of the birth of Jesus.
Today, Las Posadas is celebrated with nine nightly processions beginning December 16, and ending on Christmas Eve. The processions re-enact the journey of Mary and Joseph made to Bethlehem and their search for lodging (posada). At the last inn, a stable is offered and Jesus is born.
About Holy Cross Faith Formation
All children in the Holy Cross Parish Family have the right and opportunity to be educated in their faith. Children and young adults often have questions about God. The Holy Cross Parish Faith Formation program works with parents to answer these questions and to bring our young people into a closer relationship with God; a relationship which motivates them to make good moral decisions in order to live Christ-like lives.
