HCCS seventh graders transported to colonial America

By Mrs. Lee Anne Scovell, music educator

Seventh grade music students have been digitally transported to the 18th century as part of their Early American Music unit. After examining clothing, recreational activities, musical instruments and other common eighteenth century items, the students analyzed lyrics, melodies and period instruments. Other activities include comparing and contrasting political parodies, listening to period recordings of military calls, slave songs, and children’s songs, all popular musical genres found in early America. On-going study of American Music throughout the year, will coincide with the American History track of their Social Studies curriculum.
