A message from the Holy Cross athletic director...

Hi Everyone,

Holy Cross Athletics is accepting registrations for the 2009-2010 school year -- soccer, basketball and track!

First and most important at this point is the soccer sign-up. HCA offers a coed 5th-6th grade team and a co-ed 7th-8th grade team. The league is requesting the number of teams from Holy Cross so they can prepare the game schedules. It is important to have an accurate headcount of athletes that will be participating by the end of June so we can make the determination of the number of teams we will have. Please email your soccer athlete's intent to play to me at athletics@holycrossfamily.org, and I will forward the registration forms to you. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Other sports offered are basketball (both boys and girls teams for 5th through 8th grade) and a combined 5th thru 8th grade track team. If your athlete is planning to participate in any of these, please email and let me know and I will forward the registration information to you. Some general information on the sports seasons:

Soccer (All teams) - Mid to late August to the end of October
Basketball (5th and 6th Grade Teams) - Mid November to the end of February
Basketball (7th and 8th Grade Teams) - Mid to late November to the first week in February)
Track - April and May

For those of you with athletes in 7th and 8th grade basketball, the NEW and GBYBL basketball leagues have joined back together. The league is going to attempt to schedule games on Thursdays and some Saturdays. The league is working with some of the "Futures" teams (Notre Dame, Preble, DePere) to minimize conflicts so that athletes can participate in both leagues.

On a sidenote regarding basketball -- in the past few years, some parish members from Holy Cross have played on the St Philips basketball team. The league policy is that athletes are to play on their parish team, if their parish fields a team for that sport. The league will be enforcing the rule this year. This does not impact football, since football is not offered at Holy Cross. However, if your athlete participates in the Holy Cross Faith Formation or Day School, you will not be allowed to play on St Philips basketball.

There will be a three-tiered registration fee similar to last year of $40, $75, and $150, depending on the volunteer activities you sign up for. The one change to this is that there will not be a Packer Seat Pickup this year. We are looking at other opportunities.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at athletics@holycrossfamily.org.

Eric Rakers
Holy Cross Athletic Director
