May 2/3 From the Pastor's Desk...

My Dear Parishioners,

This weekend is very special to us here at Holy Cross because, after months of preparation, we will welcome 35 of our young children to the Table of the Lord for the first time. This is First Holy Communion Weekend here at Holy Cross! Our children and their parents/guardians have been preparing for this weekend since last October. They have faithfully been studying, praying and experiencing our parish family worship and Eucharist. We offer them our congratulations and we pray that this First Holy Communion will be the beginning of a lifetime of regularly receiving Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. For us as Catholics, the Eucharist is the very heart and soul of our Catholic faith, and what makes us unique among all the other Christian faiths is that we firmly believe that in receiving the bread and wine we are receiving Jesus Christ Himself, body and soul and divinity. How wonderful is this Sacrament that God Himself comes to dwell within us.

The Diocese has sent an e-mail asking that we all be aware of the Swine Flu outbreak and that we take proper precautions especially in our celebration of the Eucharist. Please keep in mind that shaking and holding hands is OPTIONAL. Taking Holy Communion from the cup is OPTIONAL. Our priest, deacons and Eucharistic ministers use the anti-bacterial solution to wash their hands before distributing Holy Communion. Please use common sense and practice good hygiene in relating to others, and do not be fearful of exercising all the options available during the celebration of the Eucharist.

"Oremus pro invicem"
