Sister Loyola (Dorothy) Van Straten, 84, was born February 24, 1925 in West De Pere to Emma (Hazaert) and Edward Van Straten. Sister Loyola entered the Community of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, Bay Settlement in September 1941. She was received into the Order in August 1942 and celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 2002.
Sister Loyola spent most of her years as a homemaker for the Sisters in Casco, Osman, De Pere, Peshtigo, Milwaukee, Darboy, St. Francis Convent and the Chapel at Robinsonville. Later she did pastoral work in Combined Locks and the McCormick Home in Green Bay. She retired to the Motherhouse in 1994 where she was involved in community service.
Sister Loyola is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Lawrence and Rita Van Straten, De Pere and her sister Verna Mandli, Oconomowoc, nieces, nephews, and by the members and Associates of her Community, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Eunice and brother Donald.
Sister Loyola was a kind, gentle soul with a mischievous streak. She will be remembered for her love of Community, wonderful smile, the best lemon pie made from scratch and a loyal Packer fan.
The Sisters of St. Francis and the family of Sister Loyola wish to express their gratitude to the nursing staff at St. Francis Convent for their loving care and support.
