Focus on Faith: Faith Formation Family Newsletter

Happy Mother's Day!
As a member of your Holy Cross Staff who just also happens to be a mother, I wanted to pull together a few thoughts regarding motherhood as Mother's Day approaches this weekend.

I received this from one of our volunteer catechists here at Holy Cross who is also one of the finest mothers I know. I decided to pass this on to you, because I really couldn't say it any better if I'd written it myself.

A Mother's Day Reflection
"Somebody said it takes about 6 weeks to get back to normal after you've had a baby…
Somebody doesn't know that once you're a mother, "Normal" is history.

Somebody said you learn how to be a mother by instinct…
Somebody never took a 3 year-old shopping.

Somebody said being a mother is boring…
Somebody never rode in a car driven by a teenager with a drivers permit.

Somebody said if you're a "good" mother, your child will "turn out good."
Somebody thinks a child comes with directions and a guarantee.

Somebody said "good" mothers never raise their voices.
Somebody never came out the back door just in time to see her child hit a golf ball through the neighbor's kitchen window.

Somebody said you don't need an education to be a mother.
Somebody never helped a 4th grader with her math.

Somebody said you can't love the fifth child as much as you love the first.
Somebody doesn't have five children.

Somebody said a mother can find all the answers to her child-rearing questions in the books…
Somebody never had a child stuff beans up his nose or in his ears.

Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labor and delivery…
Somebody never watched her "baby" get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten,
or on a plane headed for military "boot camp".

Somebody said a mother can do her job with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back…
Somebody never organized four giggling Brownies to sell cookies.

Somebody said a mother can stop worrying after her child gets married…
Somebody doesn't know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in-law to a mother's heartstrings.

Somebody said a mother's job is done when her last child leaves home…
Somebody never had grandchildren.

Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don't need to tell her…
Somebody isn't a mother."

May we take time today to thank our Mother's for all they do for us. May God bless them with health and keep them strong.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY MOM!

Faith Formation Parent Evaluations
By now you have all received an evaluation form for our Faith Formation Program, both by regular mail and in an e-mail attachment. PLEASE take a moment to fill that out for me while this past year is still fresh in your mind. Your input is so important as we look to planning for next year. Thank you in advance!

What's Cooking at Holy Cross Parish?
Fire up the ovens and put on your aprons! The kitchens are gonna be smelling good! Our Faith Formation Program has decided to publish a Holy Cross Parish Family cookbook! Sure to be filled to the brim with the best recipes from the best cooks in our community, we need your favorite recipes!

The best news of all? All of the profits from the sale of the cookbooks will go into our Faith Formation Program for curriculum and supplies. These 6 X 9 cookbooks will cost $15.00, and will boast a 3-ring binder for ease in removing and adding your favorite recipes over the years. (Please see the sample book in the back of church next to the recipe box!) It will become available for purchase next Fall for your Christmas gift giving, and to coincide with our new Parish Pictorial Directory. Our cookbooks will be perfect for gift giving for any occasion, and will most definitely become a cherished keepsake on your kitchen shelf!

We would like to have 3 or 4 or your favorite recipes submitted by June 14. We will select one or more of your recipes to be included in our cookbook; your name will even be printed in the cookbook with each of your own recipes! I have attached along with this newsletter the form that you can use to submit your recipes. Your may either print it off and return it to one of the places listed below, or you may e-mail your recipe back to us to the address listed below. Additional forms are available in the back of church and in the school and Faith Formation Offices.

We are anticipating a great demand for these cookbooks, so we want to be certain we are ordering enough cookbooks. It would help us immensely if you would indicate below how many cookbooks you want us to reserve in your name…remember, if you don't reserve your copies now, we may not have a cookbook for you!

On behalf of our Faith Formation Program we thank you for participating in our fundraising efforts! Any questions? Please call Marti in the Faith Formation Office at 468-6554.

Scrip Credit for Faith Formation Tuition
Holy Cross Scrip is excited to announce that beginning June 1, 2008, Faith Formation families will be able to earn credit towards their 2008-2009 Faith Formation tuition through Scrip purchases.

What is Scrip? Holy Cross Scrip is a fundraising program that earns money for our day school and Faith Formation families, through your purchases of gift cards and certificates at face value for your favorite store, gas station, and restaurants. These merchants have offered their gift cards and certificates at a discounted rate to Holy Cross. When you purchase them at face value, the difference between the face value and the discounted rate is then recognized by our program.

It costs you nothing more than what you already spend on gas, groceries, clothing, etc., yet you save money on your tuition. It doesn’t get any better than that!

On purchases made by Faith Formation families with outstanding tuition, 59% of the proceeds will be credited to their outstanding tuition and 40% of the proceeds will credited to the parish.

On purchases made by those who have paid their tuition in full for the school year, 99% of the proceeds will be credited to the parish. {The remaining 1% in each scenario covers shipping/handling expenses.}

How will credits be applied? Currently families with children enrolled in Faith Formation have the option of paying their tuition three different ways. The first option is to pay in full at registration. The second option is to pay half their tuition at registration and the other half in January. The third option is to pay 1/3 of their tuition at registration, 1/3 in November and the final 1/3 in March.

If you are utilizing one of our partial payment options, the revenue earned on your Scrip purchases made between June 1 and August 1, 2008, will be shown on your first tuition statement. If the Scrip credit is less than the installment payment due, you will be required to pay the difference. If the Scrip credit is greater than the installment payment due, no payment will be due and the excess funds will be applied toward your next installment. Revenue earned on Scrip purchases made after the August 1 date will be reflected on the next statement you receive. Again, if the Scrip credit is less than the installment payment due, you will be required to pay the difference. If your balance is paid in full when Scrip credits are distributed, revenue earned on your Scrip purchases will be credited to Holy Cross Parish.

How can I purchase Scrip? Scrip is available for sale after most masses in the room at the back of church. An order form is available underneath "Holy Cross Parish Contact information" on the right hand side of the blog.

Still have questions? E-mail us at scrip@holycrossfamily.org or call Scrip Coordinator Jan Kratz at 468-3517.
